Anvilpaw's Grotto Level Range: 20-50 (scales) Raid Size: group x2 (you MUST have 2 groups) Access: Gain the trust of the Splitpaw Gnolls, and "a glowing azure shard" (only one person needs access, but completion does grant quest credit if you are on the right step) Loot: All major loot that drops in this zone is NO-TRADE, which can cause major issues while the two groups are separated. Looting will have to work on a trust basis for now, and one person should keep track of items looted so that DKP may be debited after the raid. Try to restrict chest opening to a time when no mobs are engaged with either group.
Form up your raid, but eschew the standard MT group format. Each group needs to be capable of functioning on its own, as you will be separated for the majority of the zone. Designate one group as "Left" and the other group as "Right." Designate one person in each group as the "puzzle solver". Make sure that everyone else understands to click NOTHING in the zone.
There are two "ring events" in this zone, one for each group. The group fighting a ring event does NOT have to kill more than one wave of mobs... Just kill enough to make it through the tunnel to the gate, which will be opened by the other group.
The rest of the zone consists of a series of puzzles. Completing a puzzle on one side opens the path for the other side, and closes the way back on the completed side. Make sure EVERYONE progresses to the next area once a puzzle is solved, as there is usually no way to bring someone past a barrier that has closed behind you.
Upon entering the zone, send Right Group straight ahead into the first room. Left Group takes the left-hand passage and fights to their puzzle. Once both groups are ready to continue, have them solve their puzzles.
Puzzle 1 Right Path First = fastest Second = middle Third = Slowest
Left Path First = skilled Second = runt Third = strongest
Completing Right Path Puzzle 1 opens Left Path Puzzle 2 Completing Left Path Puzzle 1 opens Right Path Puzzle 2
Puzzle 2 Right Path Lost = sad Found = loud Hungry = agile
Left Path First = third Second = second Third = first
Completing Right Path Puzzle 2 opens Left Path Ring Event Completing Left Path Puzzle 2 opens Right Path Room 3
Puzzle 3 Right Path Chaos = dark Life = green Order = light
Left Path Fight a ring event while waiting for Right Path to finish their puzzle
Completing Right Path Puzzle 3 opens the doors ahead for both parties. Left Path group needs to be at the doorway ahead and not fighting when the puzzle is completed.
Puzzle 4 Right Path Fight a ring event while waiting for Left Path to finish their puzzle
Left Path Honorable = rook Strongest = avocet Dangerous = harrier
Completing Left Path Puzzle 4 opens the doors ahead for both parties. Right Path group needs to be at the doorway ahead and not fighting when the puzzle is completed.
Puzzle 5 Right Path 423-497 = first 413-487 = second 424-477 = third
Left Path Enchanter = urgu Sorcerer = delogi Summonner = malogi
Completing Right Path Puzzle 5 opens Left Path Final Room. Completing Left Path Puzzle 5 opens Right Path Puzzle 6
Puzzle 6 Right Path Brother = jealousy 20 Copper = highest crime Regicide = calculated
Left Path Get to final room and wait for Right Path to be completed.
Completing Right Path Puzzle 5 activates the elevators, allowing Right Group to join with Left Group. Right Group must fight through several encounters to reach Left Group.
In the final room, clear everything except for the dreadsnouts that were summoned by Anvilpaw. Once everything is clear, free the Gnolls in the pen and take position in the center of the room (to avoid a bug that causes the wandering raid mobs to deaggro and reset). Two large encounters of raid mobs will spawn, kill them both (best to have one group on each encounter). Once the entire area is clear, put one person (ranged DPS preferred) beside each totem in the room.
Anvilpaw will come into the room and begin to fight. When he reaches around 50% life, the totems in the room begin to glow, and you get a popup message notifying you that Anvilpaw is drawing power from them. Each person stationed by a totem should double-click it to turn it off. Make sure the totems stay off through the entire fight.
(Note: Puzzle information taken from EQ2 Forums, and then tested for accuracy.)
